"Fat" Acceptance: On the Rise or Not?

So, you've probably seen, read and heard about it everywhere;  "Plus Size" is the topic du jour.

In August, PETA ("People for the ETHICAL Treatment of Animals") ran billboard advertising with an overweight woman at the beach with the slogan "Save The Whales.  Loose the Blubber.  Go Vegetarian." causing a huge uproar.  So much for ethical!

In September, Canadian designer Mark Fast decided to bring in 3 plus size models for his fashion show in London last month, causing enough stir in his team that his stylist and casting director both ditched him the day before the show.  These models, who wear sizes 12-14, were in addition to the normal, waif-thin girls who were also in the show.

This caused a huge publicity stream for Mark Fast, which may or may not be the chief reason for him deciding to book these models.  He says he wanted to show that normal women can look good in his clothes, too.

The fashion magazine Glamour had plus model Lizzi Miller in her underwear in the September issue.  The magazine got such great reviews that they put 10 naked plus size models on the cover of their November magazine.

Which brings up the question how do YOU feel about seeing size 12-14 models as "plus size models" and how do you feel about bigger bodied gals being put in fashion shows and on mainstream magazine covers.  Do you think this is just a fad that will quickly fade with the next new Kate Moss?  Do you embrace this trend?

I think a lot of women have forgotten that almost ALL other women out there have non-perfect, non-airbrushed bodies with glorious curves, lines and yes--even SAGS.  Heck, do you even know what a real woman's body looks like anymore, considering that size 0-2 bodies are all we are inundated with?

Discuss.  :)
